“We are going to carry out an almost complete disarmament of Serbia,” Vucic declared in a live press conference, hours after, in a second shooting, a young man shot eight people in three villages near Belgrade.

The Serbian president, who considered the two incidents terrorist acts, announced a revision of the license to carry small arms, in addition to weapons belonging to hunters, with the aim of reducing the number from about 400,000 to “no more than 30,000 to 40 thousand “.

“Tonight’s attack was a terrorist attack, an act in which our special units were tasked with arresting and neutralizing the terrorist. The criminal has been arrested and he will not see the light of day, metaphorically speaking. He will not get out of jail ”. said the President, without specifying what type of terrorist motive he was referring to.

In Serbia, which has about 6.8 million people, people legally own more than 765,000 weapons, including about 360,000 hunting weapons, according to data presented by the Serbian head of state.

Vucic also affirmed that the government will also address the problem of illegal possession of weapons, and also announced that there will be some 1,200 new police officers in the next six months, with the aim of placing an officer in each school, in addition to security guards. .already present

Since the breakup of the former Yugoslavia and the bloody wars of the 1990s, a large number of firearms have been circulating in the Balkans.

After a shooting on Wednesday in which a 13-year-old student killed his eight classmates and a school guard in central Belgrade, a young man killed eight people with an automatic weapon and wounded 14 others in three villages in the region. from Mladenovac, some 60 kilometers south of Belgrade, on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old suspect, whose name initials were released as UB, was arrested this Friday morning in the Kragujevac region (center), 140 kilometers from the capital, after a chase that lasted all night, police said in a brief statement.

The note states that the police continue to work to clarify the facts and circumstances of what happened.

According to unofficial information, the attacker got out of a car in which he was traveling alone and began shooting. Serbian media said the shooter was the son of an army officer.
