King Charles III appeared in front of Buckingham Palace in London this Friday, the eve of his coronation, surprising a crowd gathered in the British capital for the historic event.
Dressed in a blue suit, the 74-year-old monarch was joined by his eldest son, William, and his wife, Kate, who also joined in the choreography of “selfies” and handshakes.
Queen consort Camilla was not present at this surprising initiative.
Thousands of admirers of the British monarchy have camped for days on the avenue leading to Buckingham so they can have a front row seat to the ceremony of the King’s departure from the palace to Westminster Abbey, where he will be crowned.
When Charles, William and Kate arrived in this crowd, some sang the British national anthem “God Save The King” as the King interacted with admirers.
The royal walk lasted about 20 minutes before the trio made their way back to the palace by car.
On Thursday, William and Kate had already taken a long walk to a traditional ‘pub’ in the Soho district, a busy area in the center of the capital, to give the ceremonies a touch of modernity and popular proximity.
The coronation ceremonies, which will take place on Saturday, will be attended by members of various royal families, as well as heads of state and government, including Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The United States will be represented by the First Lady, Jill Biden, who will represent the President.
Upon her arrival in London, Jill Biden engaged in some informal diplomacy initiatives after being received by Akshata Murty, wife of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
The US and UK ‘media’ have commented on Joe Biden’s absence from the coronation ceremonies of Carlos III, at a time when the two countries are seeking a post-Brexit strategic rapprochement.
Today, the two women interacted with armed forces veterans and their families.
