The 6.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the northern Ishikawa region of central Japan on Friday killed one and injured 23, authorities said Saturday.
The earthquake occurred at 2:42 p.m. on Friday (6:42 a.m. in Lisbon) at a depth of 10 kilometers, and was followed by 50 aftershocks.
Earthquakes are common in Japan, which lies on the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire,” an area of high seismic activity that spans Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim.
