Two concerts by British musician Roger Waters, which were scheduled for next year in the Polish city of Krakow, were canceled by the organization, due to the artist’s position in relation to the war in Ukraine, reports Efe.
The 79-year-old musician was scheduled to perform in Krakow in April next year, at the “Tauron Arena” concert hall, but according to some Polish media, the Polish authorities intend to declare Roger Waters ‘persona non grata’.
However, the co-founder of Pink Floyd has already written on his social networks that it was not he who canceled the two concerts.
What is at stake is the position of Roger Waters regarding the war between Russia and the Ukraine, since he attributes the responsibility for the start of the war to the Ukrainian “extremist nationalists”.
The British musician also criticizes NATO and the West for supplying weapons to Ukraine.
Meanwhile, deputies from Poland’s ultra-conservative Law and Justice party (PiS) are calling for a resolution, to be voted on Wednesday, to declare all those who publicly support the Kremlin persona non grata.
The promoters of this proposal express their outrage at Waters’ position, in the face of “the Russian criminal attack on Ukraine and the war crimes committed by Russian soldiers.”
In a Facebook post today, Roger Waters wrote that the move by Polish MPs stems from their efforts to “involve everyone in the disastrous war in Ukraine, especially the US and Russia, to seek a negotiated peace.”
The musician also called the cancellation of the two concerts “draconian censorship”, saying he was “hoping to be able to share his message of love with the Polish public”.
