Vietnam recorded a record temperature of 44.1 degrees at a weather station in the north of the country on Saturday, according to authorities.
The measurement was taken at a station in Thanh Hoa province, in the north-central part of the country, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Prediction said.
The value surpasses the previous national record of 43.4 degrees recorded on April 20, 2019 in Huong Khe district, central Ha Tinh province..
“This is a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming,” climate scientist Nguyen Ngoc Huy told France-Presse news agency (AFP).
South Asia experienced a heat wave for most of April and neighboring countries also recorded record temperatures.
“I think this record will be repeated many times,” added Nguyen Ngoc Huy. “It confirms that extreme climate models turn out to be correct,” he added.
