Slovak Prime Minister resigns after stepping down from his government

Remember that in December Slovak deputies had a four-party coalition government led by Eduard Heger. Since then, the Prime Minister has governed the country on an interim basis until the date of new elections, scheduled for September 30.

“I have asked the president to revoke my mandate,” Heger told the media.

Heger promised to coordinate his decisions with President Zuzana Caputova, with whom he is expected to meet soon.

“I will let the president try to lead Slovakia to free and democratic elections with an interim government,” Heger said.

The political crisis in the country of 5.4 million people deepened during this week. Agriculture Minister Samuel Vlcan announced his resignation on Thursday following a case involving a €1.4 million subsidy for his company.

And on Friday, Chancellor Rastislav Kacer indicated he would leave the government without raising the matter, news to AFP.
