Prince William said during tonight’s concert in Windsor to celebrate his father’s coronation that the late Queen Elizabeth II “would be a very proud mother”.
Amid the various performances, from Kate Perry to Take That, alongside Lionel Richie or the Portuguese dancer Marcelino Sambé, Prince William took the stage to pay tribute to his father, Carlos III.
The Prince of Wales quoted the late Queen as saying that when she was crowned “the coronations are a declaration of our hopes for the future”. He added, “I know she’s up there lovingly looking down on us. She’d be a very proud mother.”
At the beginning of the speech, William said that he would not speak for a long time. “Don’t worry, unlike Lionel [Richie]”I’m not staying all night,” he joked, referring to his famous song “All Night Long.”
William also recalled that his father’s first words after entering Westminster Abbey, where the coronation took place, were a return to the country. “Because for more than 50 years in every corner of the UK, in the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serving others, both present and future generations, and those whose memory should not be forgotten.”
The Prince of Wales, heir to the throne, also recalled that his father had been warning of the risks of climate change to the planet “long before this became an everyday issue”.
He also spoke about his father’s foundation, which has helped more than a million people, endorsing: “Father [usou a expressão carinhosa Pa]we are very proud of you”.
He ended the speech with a “God protect the kingfollowed by the national anthem.
