Sixteen countries will compete this Thursday for the last ten places in the final of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, which takes place in Liverpool on Saturday, and for which Portugal has been selected, with the theme “Ai Coração”, by Mimicat.
The Liverpool Arena will host the second semi-final of the competition on Thursday evening, in which the following players will compete, in order of presentation: Denmark, Armenia, Romania, Estonia, Belgium, Cyprus, Iceland, Greece, Poland, Slovenia, Georgia, São Marino, Austria, Albania, Lithuania and Australia.
This year, 37 countries are participating in the Eurovision Song Contest, but only 26 make it to the final: the ten selected on Thursday, ten selected in the first semifinal on Tuesday, the so-called ‘Big Five’ (France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy) and the host country (which should be Ukraine this year, which won last year).
The following were selected in the first semi-final: Portugal, Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, Czech Republic, Israel, Sweden, Serbia and Norway.
Sweden, Finland and Ukraine are the three favorites to win this year’s competition, according to the average of various bookmakers, calculated by the special site eurovisionworld.com.
Last year, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Stefania” by the Kalush Orchestra. That is why it should have organized the competition this year, but the war that ravaged the country eventually led the organization to decide that the United Kingdom, runner-up, would be the host country.
Ukraine’s victory was mainly due to the popular vote. The country, which had been invaded by Russia months earlier, received a total of 631 votes, 439 of which were from the public.
In 2022, Portugal entered the Eurovision Song Contest with “Saudade, saudade”, by Maro, reaching 9th place in the contest.
This semi-final can be seen on RTP1 at 21:43.
