Deputy Secretary of State, number two in the Biden administration, is retiring and will step down in the summer after decades of service with the US government, she announced.
The Deputy Secretary, Wendy Sherman, age 73, took part in several very important and controversial political decisions, namely during the Bill Clinton administrations.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised Sherman’s career, saying “President Biden asked Wendy to fill the post because he knew she could be counted on to revive America’s alliances and partnerships and complex relationships with competitors.”.
“During his remarkable career spanning more than three decades, three presidents and five secretaries of state, he has tackled some of the most difficult foreign policy challenges of our time”said Blink.
“Our nation is more secure and secure, and our partnerships are more robust because of your leadership,” advanced.
Sherman has played an important role in the Biden administration’s efforts to compete with China in the Indo-Pacific region and has been particularly active in dealings with Pacific island nations, while also meeting on numerous occasions with senior Chinese officials.
He also played a very important role in organizing international diplomatic support to Ukraine in the context of the Russian invasion.
