Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced this Friday that he will file a lawsuit against the president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, for linking him to the alleged corruption of a former adviser and for causing thousands of deaths from the covid -19 attributes to him. 19 .
“Next week I will file two lawsuits against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, one criminal and the other civilian,” the far-right leader announced in a video posted on his social networks.
These are the first lawsuits the retired army captain will bring against Lula da Silva since he succeeded him and took power on January 1.
In the video, the former president rejected a recurring statement by Lula da Silva in his public dealings blaming him for the “deaths of at least 300,000” of the 700,000 Brazilians who lost their lives from Covid-19.
“These are absurd numbers that damage my honor,” said Bolsonaro, who continued to deny the seriousness of the coronavirus during the pandemic and is under investigation, even for spreading vaccine rumors.
The other issue for which the current head of state will be prosecuted concerns one of the scandals involving Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, a former very close adviser to Bolsonaro during his four years in power (2019-2022).
Cid was arrested last Wednesday for participating in an alleged plot to falsify COVID-19 vaccination certificates in favor of Bolsonaro himself, the youngest daughter of the former president and several of his former advisers, the Federal Police said.

Lula da Silva hinted this Thursday at a ceremony in the city of Salvador that this property actually belongs to Bolsonaro.
“Surely an eight million dollar house (…) is not for an assistant, it is certainly for the champion of discord, for the champion of ignorance, for the champion of denial,” he suggested in reference to his predecessor at the presidency.
According to the Brazilian ‘media’, Cid is also under investigation for suspicious ‘wire transfers’ on behalf of Bolsonaro, discovered after his banking and telematics secrecy was lifted by court order.
Bolsonaro said that “Lula cannot continue to lie freely and be harassed by practically no one”.
“We will do our part and I am sure the justice system will do its part,” he added.
Bolsonaro, who lost his privileges on January 1 when Lula da Silva succeeded him, is being investigated in about 20 cases of abuse of power and other charges, which are being heard in the ordinary courts, the Federal Supreme Court and the Electoral Justice.
