The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, will be received in the United Kingdom on Monday by the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, to discuss more military support to resist the invasion of Russia, the British government announced.
The unexpected visit was confirmed in a statement, which said Zelensky would update Sunak on the outcome of meetings with the leaders of Italy, Germany and France in recent days.
The meeting will take place at the British Prime Minister’s country residence at Checkers Court, on the outskirts of London.
Anticipating a period of increased military activity due to the expected Ukrainian counteroffensive, Sunak promises to deliver hundreds of air defense missiles and unmanned aerial systems, including drones with a range of more than 200 kilometers, in the coming months.
“This is a crucial moment in Ukraine’s resistance to a terrible war of aggression that it neither chose nor provoked. Ukraine needs the sustained support of the international community to fend off the series of relentless and indiscriminate attacks that have been its daily reality for more than a year,” he explained.
Last week, the UK became the first country to supply Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, allowing it to strike far from the front.
