4 missing children found alive 17 days after plane crash in Colombia

The four children who had been missing for 17 days after the plane crash in southern Colombia, which caused the death of three adults, were found alive, Colombian authorities reported Wednesday.

“After arduous search efforts by our Armed Forces, we found the four children who disappeared from the accident of a small plane in Guaviare alive. A joy for the country”, expressed the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, in a note through the social network. Twitter.

The four children, including an 11-month-old baby, went missing in the Amazon jungle after the plane they were traveling in with their mother crashed in early May, and she was found dead along with two other adults on board.

More than 100 soldiers, aided by sniffer dogs, took part in the searches, which intensified after new clues suggested they might be alive.

“Efforts to locate the four minors, thirteen, nine, four and an 11-month-old baby, have intensified in recent hours,” the military explained in a statement.

After rescuing the children, the Colombian authorities have not yet released more details about their state of health.

The aircraft, a Cessna 206, had disappeared from radar on May 1 in the vicinity of San José del Guaviare, where it was supposed to go.

Rescue teams discovered a “makeshift shelter made of sticks and branches” and believed there was at least one survivor.

The causes of the accident have not yet been determined.

According to civil protection, the pilot had reported problems with the plane’s engine before it disappeared from radar.
