Two people died on Saturday, in two states in Brazil, as a result of political discussions at a time of tension in the country that has presidential elections on Sunday, official sources said Monday.
In the Brazilian state of Ceará, a man has been stabbed and killed for saying in a bar that he would vote for Lula da Silva in the presidential election.
According to the O Povo newspaper, a man arrived on Saturday at a bar in the municipality of Cascavel and asked: “Who is the voter of Lula here?”.
The victim will have replied, “I am!”. The criminal then hit the 39-year-old victim with a knife, who was rescued but eventually died.
The civil police are taking the necessary steps to locate and arrest the man.
“Based on the information gathered at the scene, the motivation for the crime is said to be related to political discussion. On the day the victim was rescued, but died during medical care. The search for the suspect continues,” he said. in a statement.
The other case took place in Rio do Sul, a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina. According to the military police, the crime took place for political reasons and old family disagreements. The victim, 34-year-old Hildor Henker, was wearing a Bolsonaro T-shirt and had an argument with Lula’s supporter. The discussion flared up and Lula’s supporter stabbed Bolsonaro, who also eventually died.
The man is on the run.
