Russia on Friday declared Greenpeace undesirable, a move that effectively bans the environmental organization’s activities in the country amid a crackdown on critical voices since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
a Russia’s Attorney General’s Office said in a statement that the Netherlands-based non-governmental organization (NGO) “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and to the security” of Russia.
He also believed that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine 15 months ago, Greenpeace has been working to spread “anti-Russian propaganda”, and promote “greater economic isolation” and the strengthening of international sanctions.
Greenpeace’s activities in Russia include raising awareness of climate change, fighting forest fires and conserving animal species, according to the French agency AFP.
