Ukrainian authorities say they completely repelled another attack by Russian drones on the capital in the early hours of Saturday, but confirmed debris fell on Kiev and caused no injuries.
“The aggressor again carried out a massive attack with drones,” unmanned aerial vehicles, the head of the civil and military administration of Kiev wrote on the Telegram platform.
“All detected air targets were shot down by the city’s air defenses,” said Sergey Popko, adding that according to preliminary information, Russia used Shahed-type drones manufactured by Iran.
The leader assured that “Kiev was not hit by any attack”, but confirmed that drone debris fell on the capital, sparking a now-extinguished fire on the roof of a residential building in the Dniprovskyi district.
The fire caused no casualties or injuries, Popko said.
The flames reached a nine-story building, Kiev mayor Vitaliy Klitschko also added on the Telegram platform.
Sergey Popko added that debris fell in three other districts of the capital: Darnytskyi, Pechersk and Solomyanskyi.
The director said there was no information about possible victims.
The Ukrainian army had announced around 00:45 (21:45 in Lisbon on Friday) that the Shahed drones were heading towards the Kiev region.
Explosions were confirmed by authorities in the capital, as well as in Cherniguiv (central north) and Mariupol (southeast) regions.
According to the military, air defense systems remain active in the Kiev and Cherniguiv regions.
Kiev’s civil and military administration said Russia is “trying with all its might to damage important targets in Kiev while trying to exhaust our air defense assets”.
“The Russians are trying to keep the civilian population in deep psychological stress. That is why they are attacking Kiev from the air almost every day,” the government said, referring to the eleventh bombing of the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of the month.
