“I think it could be a game changer,” he added, assuring the Ukrainian president that France will stand by Kyiv “until the end”. Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the support.

Since arriving in Hiroshima this afternoon, Zelensky has held bilateral meetings with G7 officials and has already made contact with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who assured him that India will do “everything possible” to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. unload.

According to the French presidency, Brazilian President Lula da Silva also plans to meet Zelensky at the summit: “He has shown great availability for dialogue,” he referred.

The members of the G7 (Germany, Canada, United States, France, Italy, Japan and United Kingdom), plus the European Union, have been meeting since Friday at a summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

Leaders have already called on China to pressure Russia to end the war against Ukraine, saying they want “constructive and stable” relations with Beijing.

“We call on China to put pressure on Russia to cease its military aggression and withdraw its troops from Ukraine immediately, completely and unconditionally,” they said in a statement quoted by the French agency AFP.

Beijing remains a close ally of Moscow and has never condemned the Russian invasion, but this week sent a diplomat to Europe to try to find a solution to the conflict.

Russia’s war against Ukraine plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

The number of civilian and military casualties in the conflict is unknown, but several sources, including the United Nations, have admitted it will be very high.
