A man was attacked with a belt on Monday during a session of the city council of Pedras Grandes, in Santa Catarina. The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.
As explained by Dilcinei Claudino, President of the Chamber, the victim was ready to speak at the hearing when the incident happened – a man, ‘armed’ with a belt, entered the hall and began to attack. Faced with this episode, the meeting was interrupted.
Due to the intervention of some people present, who put the aggressor on the street, while other witnesses called the police, the incident did not take on major proportions.
The city council has since issued a statement rejecting the incident
“We emphasize that this aggression had nothing to do with legislative work, nor with any council member. That is, the Chamber has no relation whatsoever to what happened, although the facts took place and in its premises. We express our rejection of the aggression suffered, as we are against any form of aggression,” it said.
The local police handled the incident. According to one of the mayors, the aggressor is an employee of the city hall and everything happened because of a “personal disagreement between the two, which has nothing to do with politics. The fact happened in the city council because that other citizen was there, but he has nothing to do with City Hall,” he explained.
