British Home Secretary Suella Braverman is suspected of trying to get preferential treatment after speeding and the opposition is demanding an investigation into Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, the Sunday Times newspaper reported on Sunday.
According to the newspaper, quoted by Agence France-Presse, after a speeding ticket, the minister has asked the route supervisors to organize a private traffic rules course to prevent you from following this course with a group of several motorists, so as not to lose points on your driving license.
Asked about the matter by journalists at the G7 summit, which ends today in Japan, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said “I don’t know all the details about what happened”.
“It is my understanding that she regretted the speeding, accepted the sanction and paid the fine,” her spokesperson limited herself to stating, quoted by the PA bureau, assuring that the minister has “obvious” confidence in the prime minister.
The Labor Party opposition demanded an investigation, claiming that the minister had broken the rules of the ministerial code, which could lead to her leaving government.
“Mrs Braverman admits that she drove too fast last summer and regrets it. She chose to lose three points on her driving license and paid the fine last year,” a spokesperson for the minister responds in a statement to AFP .
Suella Braverman’s appointment had already been criticized, as she was forced to resign from the previous administration for improperly sending an official document from a personal email address.
Taking a hard line on security and immigration, the minister is working to fulfill the prime minister’s pledge to “stop the boats” of migrants arriving illegally in the UK and her firm speech has sparked several controversies .
