Jeffrey Epstein allegedly threatened and tried to blackmail Bill Gates over his alleged extramarital affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Sources close to the case told the US newspaper that after Jeffrey Epstein found out about the case of the player and Microsoft founder, he threatened to pay Bill Gates the tuition Epstein paid for Mila Antonova to attend software coding school.
The threat came via email in 2017 after Epstein failed to get Bill Gates to join a multi-billion dollar charitable fund he was trying to set up. According to the same sources, this fund would be an attempt by Epstein to rebuild his reputation after he was forced to register as a sex offender and found guilty of recruiting and hiring a minor for prostitution.
Bill Gates met Mila Antonova in 2010. According to documents reviewed by the American newspaper, Mila Antonova wanted to set up an online bridge tutorial business and secure funding from Epstein.
The player met Epstein through a close adviser to Bill Gates. Epstein ultimately did not invest in this company, but provided an apartment in New York for Mila Antonova to live in. “I didn’t interact with him or anyone else while I was there,” said the Russian player.
Epstein even paid tuition for Mila Antonova to attend a software coding school. “Jeffrey Epstein agreed to pay and paid the school directly. Nothing has changed. I don’t know why he did that,” the player told The Wall Street Journal. “When I asked him, he said something like he was rich and wanted to help people where he could.”
Epstein attempted to create a charitable fund with the JP Morgan company, which required high net worth individuals to make a minimum investment of $100 million. Documents show that the fund’s creation was contingent on getting support from Bill Gates.
Emails revealed that Epstein exchanged emails with JP Morgan executives as if he were a close adviser to Bill Gates. A spokesman for Bill Gates “said Epstein never worked for Bill Gates and misrepresented his ties in communications with JP Morgan and others.”
In 2019, Jeffrey Epstein was charged with sex trafficking of a minor and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking. Epstein denied the allegations and died in an apparent suicide in custody a few months later.
