Copenhagen’s availability comes after Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, hinted at the possibility over the weekend and that the summit would be hosted within two months.
“If Ukraine thinks it’s time to hold this meeting, that would be great. And it would be perfectly clear that Denmark wants to host this meeting,” Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told Danish agency Ritzau.
Rasmussen emphasized that the most important thing is not where the summit is held, but that countries such as China, India or Brazil participate in the meeting.
“We support Ukraine and have done so from day one. But if it is to be a summit that makes progress, it should not just be a meeting between countries that have always been on Ukraine’s side,” he added.
The Danish minister was skeptical about Russian participation, although he stressed that this matter should be decided by Kiev.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
