Two gas leaks were detected in the Nord Stream 1 gas pipeline on Tuesday, hours after a similar incident occurred in the Nord Stream 2, Scandinavian authorities announced.
“There were two other leaks in the Nord Stream 1, which is also not in operation, but contains gas,” the Danish climate and energy minister told AFP, stressing that the authorities called for “more preparation in the electricity sector and the gas”. in Denmark.
Due to these two gas leaks, the Swedish Maritime Authority issued an alert, not knowing, for now, what is the origin of these leaks in Swedish and Danish waters.
“There are two leaks in Nord Stream 1, one in the Swedish Economic Zone and one in the Danish Economic Zone. They are very close to each other,” a Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) spokesman said. to the Reuters news agency.
The leaks were located northeast of the Danish island of Bornholm. “We are maintaining extra vigilance to ensure that no ship gets too close to the site,” added another spokesman.
On Monday, the Danish Maritime Authority warned that a gas leak had been detected in the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which links the Russian Federation with Europe, under the Baltic Sea.
The operator of Nord Stream 2 confirmed that the leak had been detected southeast of the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.
The Danish energy agency said in a statement that the country’s maritime authority issued a navigation warning and determined a five-nautical-mile navigation zone around the pipeline “because it is dangerous for ship traffic.”
It is feared that this leak will lead to the emptying of the gas pipeline, which has 177 million cubic meters of gas, in the coming days.
This leak occurred the day before the opening of a gas pipeline, the Baltic Tube, which will transport gas from Norway to Poland, via Denmark.
Norwegian gas has an important role in replacing Russian gas.
