Defense Minister Helena Carreiras said in Brussels on Monday that the European Union has already completed the training of 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers.

In assessing the Portuguese contribution presented in Brussels, the minister also reported on Portugal’s contribution in the field of military equipment, including “the most recent package of M113 vehicles in the form of ambulances and first aid”.
As part of the European commitment to supply one million large-caliber ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year, the minister said it is possible to obtain 25% of stockpiles and joint purchases will take place soon.
“This work is ongoing, it will take a little longer, but he hopes that the first contracts will be drawn up by the end of June and that it will be possible for countries to place their purchase orders in July,” he said. that Portugal could equate the European Joint Purchasing Mechanism, but that is not foreseen at the moment.
