The unexplained leaks discovered in the Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea are the result of a “planned terrorist attack” by Moscow “against the European Union”, kyiv said on Tuesday.
“The large-scale gas leak from Nord Stream 1 is nothing more than a terrorist attack planned by Russia and an act of aggression against the European Union,” adviser to the Ukrainian presidency Mykhailo Podoliak said on Twitter.
gas filled tubes
The Danish and Swedish authorities have detected unexplained leaks at this stage in the Nord Stream 1 gas pipelines, which have been closed since the beginning of September, and Nord Stream 2, which have never been put into service due to lack of authorization due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. .
Although out of service, both tubes were filled with gas, which explains the leaks.
Recorded underwater explosions
Underwater explosions were recorded before the start of pipeline leaks, “most likely due to detonations,” according to the Swedish seismic institute.
According to Mykhaïlo Podoliak, Russia “wants to destabilize the economic situation in Europe and sow panic before winter”, in a context of fears of an unprecedented energy crisis in Europe in the coming months.
“The best response to a tyrant… is tanks for Ukraine,” he wrote on Twitter, calling for more Western arms deliveries to the Ukrainian army to deal with Moscow’s troops.
