Electronic passport control in the UK is working again after a failure

Electronic passport control (‘e-gates’) at UK airports resumed operation on Sunday, a day after a technical failure that caused several delays, the Home Office reported.

“We can confirm that all the ‘e-gates’ work normally,” said an official source from the Ministry of the Interior, quoted by the EFE news agency.

The executive thanked all the travelers “for their patience” and the workers who solved the technical failure.

On Saturday, many travelers complained, through social networks, about having to wait several hours before they could pass immigration controls.

London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports cited a national problem affecting British Border Police’s “electronic gates”, which allow automatic passage through checks.

This electronic system can be used by citizens of the European Union and countries such as Australia, Canada, the United States, Japan and New Zealand, over 12 years of age.

The UK has over 270 electronic gates at 15 installations.
