A tourist boat sank this Sunday in Lake Maggiore, in northern Italy, killing four people. On Monday morning, the Italian authorities announced the rescue of the last body.
The 16-meter boat was carrying 24 people, including tourists and crew, of whom 20 survived. According to AFP, the boat sank after a “whirlwind” in the lake.
A video of firefighters published by the Corriere della Sera newspaper shows a search and rescue helicopter hovering over choppy waters, where chairs and other debris can be seen floating.
The president of the Lombardy region, Attilio Fontana, has already regretted the “extremely serious incident” on Lake Maggiore, the second largest in Italy.
