Four people died when a tourist boat capsized on Lake Maggiore due to strong winds.
The boat capsized Sunday night near Lisanza, on the south side of the lake in northern Italy.
“The bodies of four people have been recovered,” fire service spokesman Luca Cari told AFP on Monday.
Among the victims was a middle-aged Israeli, according to a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Two others were Italians, a 62-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, both secret service employees, a statement from the Italian security services said. Celebrate the birthday of one of the members of the group,” the statement says.
According to the press, the fourth dead is a 50-year-old Russian woman, the companion of the boat’s captain.
The president of the Lombardy region, Attilio Fontana, said on Sunday that a “vortex” had caused the 16-meter boat to capsize.
On Sunday, firefighters said 19 people survived the accident, with the media suggesting some had been picked up by passing boats, while others swam to shore.
