At least five people were killed and 19 injured in a bombing raid in the Russian-occupied Ukrainian region of Lugansk this morning, Russian authorities said, attributing the attack to the Ukrainian army.
Russia’s security control center in eastern Ukraine’s Lugansk region said the bombing hit the village of Karpaty, 35 kilometers west of the capital Lugansk.
The institution said on the Telegram platform that, according to preliminary information, the attack was carried out with High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (known by its abbreviation in English Himars), donated to Ukraine by the United States.
The center claimed on the Telegram platform that Ukrainian forces fired four rockets that damaged a construction site and a poultry farm.
Russia announced in September the annexation of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporijia regions of eastern Ukraine, all of which were partially occupied after the invasion launched on February 24 by order of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The decision was rejected by Kiev and the international community.
