Nine people arrested for releasing videos of Russian attacks

Nine people have been detained in Ukraine for filming and posting on social media interceptions of Russian missiles and drones by Ukrainian air defenses, the country’s authorities announced on Wednesday.

The prisoners, seven women and two men aged between 23 and 49, “are said to have succeeded” through their actions in revealing “details of air defense operation” that the authorities say could be useful for planning attacks by Russian troops.

On Monday, two other men were also arrested for disclosing confidential military information on social media.

Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly asked their citizens not to film or broadcast footage of defense operations.

Showing some of these videos will help Russia understand where its missiles landed and correct the trajectory in future attacks. In addition, recordings of intercepts can give an idea of the location of Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses.

Despite this, this kind of content is still being spread on social networks after every attack with ‘drones’ (unmanned aerial vehicles) and missiles by Russia.

The war caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine plunged Europe into what is considered the worst security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
