Alexander Bortnikov, director of the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) said the European Political Community summit taking place in Moldova this Thursday shows international interest in forcing the Chisinau government into war.
For Bortnikov, one of the most important voices among Russian intelligence services, “Ukraine is just a bridge for the transition from the war to Russia”.
“The ‘West’ is pushing Moldova (the country) to participate in the Ukrainian conflict,” said Bortnikov, quoted by the TASS agency.
This Thursday, Moldova will host the second summit of the European Political Community, the cooperation platform for security and stability in Europe, with leaders from the European Union (EU) and other countries.
The second summit of the European Political Community will bring together about 50 leaders from across the European continent at Mimi Castle in Bulboaca, 35 kilometers from Moldova’s capital, Chisinau, and 20 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
Historically, Russia’s influence has been a political problem in Moldova because of the country’s military presence in the breakaway region of Transnistria.
Bortnikov added that the West is urging Chisinau authorities to carry out “a violent purge” of the breakaway region where Russia has maintained troops since the 1990s.
