Iran’s police commander threatened on Wednesday to use “full force” against protesters who have resisted for 12 days to protest the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died after being detained in Tehran.
The young woman, a native of Iranian Kurdistan, died on September 16, three days after being arrested on charges of not wearing her hair covered, breaching one of the strictest norms regarding the dress code imposed on women in the Islamic Republic. of Iran since 1979.
“Today, the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and some rioters seek to disturb the order and security of the nation using all pretexts,” the police commander said in a statement.
“Police officers will show strength against counterrevolutionary conspiracies and hostile elements and will act against those who disturb order and security throughout the country,” the official said in the same document quoted by the Fars agency.
According to the latest report sent to the France Presse news agency (AFP), “about 60 people have died since September 16.”
AFP sources contradict the balance released by the police that indicates the death of only ten protesters.
According to the police, 1,200 demonstrators were detained in protests taking place across the country.
