At least 13 people were killed on Monday after a shooting at a school in the central Russian city of Izhevsk, the Russian commission of inquiry said, according to AFP. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident an “inhumane terrorist attack”.
The dead included seven children and six adults, including security guards and teachers, authorities said, indicating the perpetrator of the shooting “committed suicide”.
“The body of the man who opened fire has already been found by the police,” the interior ministry said in a statement on social media. There are about 20 injured.
Governor Alexander Brechalov of the Udmurtia region, of which Izhevsk is the capital, said an unknown man entered the school, “killed a guard” and fired inside the school, mainly at children.
“The evacuation is complete” and “the entire perimeter is isolated,” Bretchalov added in a video on the social network Telegram, specifying that the Russian National Guard, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and “the authorities responsible for the investigation” were already on site.
Izhevsk School 88, located a few meters from the city administration, has about 1,000 students, according to Russian media.

According to authorities, the gunman was wearing “a black top with Nazi symbols” and a hat, with no identification documents.

According to the Russian Ministry of Health, “14 ambulance teams” were on the scene and “a group of doctors” are expected to go to Izhevsk soon “to help the victims”.
An investigation into murder and illegal weapons possession was quickly opened and handed over to the Russian Commission of Inquiry, the country’s main investigative body.
The Russian city of Izhevsk has about 630,000 inhabitants and is the regional capital of the Republic of Udmurtia. It is located about 1,000 kilometers east of Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the shooting an “inhumane terrorist attack” and wished the injured well in a message from his spokesman.
