Zelensky orders inspection of air raid shelters after three deaths

O Ukraine’s president ordered an inspection of all bomb shelters in the country on Fridayafter three people died in the early hours of Thursday because they couldn’t enter one of them that had been sealed off during a Russian attack.

In a publication on the personal account of the social network Telegram, Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that he had instructed Ukrainian Minister of Strategic Industry Oleksandr Kamyshin to conduct “a full inspection of all protective structures in Kiev” within ten days.

The Minister of the Interior, Igor Klymenko, was ordered by the Ukrainian president to evaluate shelters in the rest of the country.

Zelensky gave the orders this Friday during a meeting with military commanders and representatives of the secret services and politicians responsible for the defense of Ukraine.

On Thursday, Zelensky expressed his anger at Kyiv’s local authorities for failing to secure all the capital’s shelters – set up in metro stations, underground car parks and basements of residential buildings.

In recent weeks, many residents have complained about the closure of bomb shelters at a time when the frequency and intensity of Russian night attacks has increased.

Nighttime attacks have also led to an increase in the number of Kiev residents seeking refuge in bomb shelters at night.
