The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, defends an in-depth investigation to “determine the origin and those responsible” for the explosions in gas pipelines from Russia.
“Everything is in order to identify the origin of the events and the explosions in the pipeline “NordStream 1” and “NordStream 2”, said Reynders, who advocated that “the investigations” be “deep”, before commenting “the origin “. and responsibility for these explosions.”
Asked if he considers it necessary to reinforce the security of energy infrastructures in the European Union, given the events in the Baltic Sea, the commissioner assures that Brussels is already taking measures.

“Fortunately, we had already tightened measures on critical infrastructure, even before the negotiations. [da Comissão] with the Parliament and the Council”, he said, recalling that “an agreement to reinforce the regulation has already been drawn up and will be put into practice”.
Reynders says that this regulation “allows us to go further in the approach to critical infrastructure, it is an element that must be examined, as a result of what has just happened”.
The commissioner now refers to the energy council, scheduled for this Friday, September 30, in which he hopes that the issue of energy security in the European Union will be one of the issues on the table.
Didier Reynders also recalls that Brussels has been proposing a set of initiatives to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian gas, which will also be discussed at the Energy Council.
“There were proposals from the commission to reduce consumption, in relation to the objectives of peak hours and, finally, there will be a series of proposals to see how to limit the evolution of prices,” he said.
