Pope Francis will undergo surgery for an abdominal hernia, the Vatican said Wednesday. The Supreme Pontiff will be admitted in the next few hours to the Gemeli hospital in Rome, where he will remain hospitalized for two days, according to the Italian news agency, Ansa.
The Vatican spokesman, quoted by Agence France-Presse (AFP), explains that Francis has suffered, in recent years, “recurring and painful symptoms”, having already undergone an identical surgical intervention in 2021.
