Russia accuses Ukrainians of blowing up ammonia pipeline (with video)

Russia on Wednesday accused Ukraine of blowing up the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, the longest in the world, and denounced a “terrorist act” that injured several civilians.

“A Ukrainian sabotage group blew up the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline near the town of Masyutivka in the Kharkiv region,” the Russian defense ministry said in a statement.

This “terrorist act” took place on Monday evening, the same source stated.

According to the Russian ministry, “as a result of this terrorist attack, there are casualties among the civilian population” due to drunkenness.

“[Os civis] get the necessary medical care,” said the source.

“Currently, through the damaged sections of the pipeline, the ammonia residues are being eliminated from the Ukrainian territory,” the Russian Defense Ministry added, noting that “there are no casualties among the Russian army.”

The roughly 1,500-mile pipeline connects the TogliattiAzot ammonia plant — considered the world’s largest producer of ammonia — in the Russian city of Togliatti, on the banks of the Volga, with the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Odessa.

Transit through this pipeline was suspended with the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine in February 2022.

The resumption of the operation of this pipeline, at the request of Moscow, is part of the negotiations, with the participation of the UN, on the grain agreement, which allowed the Ukrainians to export millions of tons of this food.
