Four children and an adult were stabbed this Thursday by a man who invaded a playground in Annecy, in the region of the French Alps. Another person was injured in the attack.
The alert was given at 9:45 local time (8:45 in Lisbon).
According to the French press, two children have a “reserved prognosis”. Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said the attacker “was arrested thanks to the quick reaction of the security forces.”
A police source indicates that the suspect is a Syrian national and an asylum seeker.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) also indicates that French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne will visit the site of the attack.
“Absolute Cowardice Attack”
French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack as “an act of utter cowardice.” “Children and adults are between life and death. The nation is in shock. Our thoughts are with them and their families,” the French leader wrote on Twitter.
