A Russian attack on the center of Kherson (south), a city hit by severe flooding after the destruction of a dam upstream of the Dnieper River, killed and injured civilians, according to a Ukrainian army officer.
“As a result of Russian artillery shelling, civilians were injured and killed in the center of Kherson. The number is being clarified,” Serguiï Sergueïev, a press officer in the region, told Agence France Presse (AFP).
“A civilian was killed (…) and two people were injured,” says a statement from the regional prosecutor’s office.
In a village near Kherson, “four residents were injured” in another attack, he added.
In recent days, Ukrainians have accused the Russian army of attacking Kherson, as authorities are evacuating thousands of civilians from flooded areas following the destruction of a dam upstream of the Dnieper River.
Russia, on the other hand, claims that the Ukrainian army is targeting civilians being evacuated after it killed two of them on Thursday, according to Moscow-installed occupation authorities.
