An investigation has been opened in France following complaints from more than 80 MPs who say they have received emails containing anti-Semitic, racist and homophobic messages, the Paris prosecutor’s office said today.
“Countless deputies were targeted, all parliamentary groups were affected … this is an operation clearly carried out with the help of a computer program,” said the presidency of the French National Assembly.
More than 80 parliamentarians from the presidential majority have filed a collective complaint after receiving two emails containing anti-Semitic, racist and homophobic messages on Monday and Tuesday, according to the AFP news agency.
The emails referred to the “re-establishment of the dominance of the white race in Europe”, according to lawmaker Ludovic Mendes.
These posts contained a link that referred to a “website” that “encouraged acts of extreme violence of a racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic nature”, with “several explicit references to the Nazi regime and Holocaust denial, as well as a return to National Socialism”, detailed.
The investigation has been opened for appeals against public crimes against humanity, but also for incitement to violence, the prosecutor’s office said.
