Greta Thunberg ends school strike after finishing high school

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg announced on Friday that she had ended her “Fridays for Future” school strike after graduating from high school.

“I finished high school, which means I can’t go on a school climate strike anymore. This is my last school strike,” the 20-year-old Swede said on her Twitter account.

The founder of the Fridays for Future movement hopes to use other forms of protest.

“I will continue to protest on Friday, although technically it is not a school strike.”

Greta Thunberg was only 15 years old when she first appeared next to the Swedish parliament, on a Friday in August 2018, holding a banner reading “School strike for the climate”.

In a matter of months, from Berlin to Sydney and from San Francisco to Johannesburg, other young people followed in the activist’s footsteps, giving rise to the Fridays for Future movement.

“When I started striking in 2018, I never thought I would have such an impact,” Greta said on Friday.
“In 2019, millions of young people “did not go to school on Fridays” because of the weather, and “the streets flooded in more than 180 countries,” he stressed.
