Angolan president congratulates Marcelo on Portugal Day and highlights “high-level” contacts

The Angolan President, João Lourenço, congratulated his counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on the Day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities, highlighting the “high-level contacts” between the two countries.

In a message addressed to Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, João Lourenço highlighted the “dynamics” between the two countries and the “constant exchange” at an institutional, business, academic, scientific and cultural level, through which “peoples and governments strengthen and deepen the ties of friendship and cooperation that unite Angola and Portugal”.

“I am sure that the contacts at the highest level between our countries, which occur with healthy frequency, will contribute to laying the foundations on which to sustain, in the present and in the future, the implementation of initiatives that promote development and progress of our two nations”.

This week, Prime Minister António Costa was in Luanda, where he signed 13 legal instruments with Angola, accompanied by four ministers.

The country has already been visited this year by several Portuguese leaders, within the framework of the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries) and for the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements.

Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was last in Angola on September 15 last year at the inauguration of João Lourenço, who won his second term in the August 2022 general elections.
