The individual arrested for stabbing four children and two adults in a playground in Annecy, in eastern France, last Thursday, has been charged with attempted murder and rebellion with a weapon, the Public Ministry announced today.
According to Annecy prosecutor Line Bonnet-Mathi, the suspect, Abdalmasi H, has not been charged with terrorism.
Bonnet-Mathi also announced that none of those injured in the attack are now in danger.
“None of them are in mortal danger,” he said.
The Syrian refugee was remanded in custody, Bonnet-Mathis said, adding that Abdalmasih H. “did not want to speak,” either during the 48 hours he was in police custody, or before the two investigating magistrates in charge of the investigation. .
The prosecutor reported on the events, which began around 9:30 a.m. this Thursday (8:30 a.m. in Lisbon), when the victims were stabbed in the Paquier park.
The intervention of several people who were near the playground caused the suspect to flee, who ended up being detained some 300 meters from the park by five policemen.
Meanwhile, locals continue to visit the site of the attack, which has been turned into a tribute to the victims with flowers, messages of support, stuffed animals and balloons.
