According to the results of this survey, which will be published in its entirety on Monday by the German press group Funke, 33% of men between the ages of 18 and 35 said they accept the idea that “their hand slips” on some occasion during a discussion with his wife. couple. 34% also admitted to having been violent towards women in the past.

The survey, commissioned by the children’s aid organization Plan International Germany, was conducted online among 1,000 German men and 1,000 women between the ages of 18 and 35.

These results are “shocking,” exclaimed Karsten Kassner of the Federal Men’s Forum, a group that campaigns for gender equality. “It is problematic that a third of the men surveyed trivialize physical violence against women. This needs to change urgently,” he told the Funke Group.

In 2021, more than 115,000 women were victims of domestic violence in Germany and 301 women were killed by their current or former partner, according to data from the German federal police. In 2022, Germany’s justice minister said he would push for tougher penalties for violence against women, which should not be seen as mere “private tragedies.”

In France, 23% of men between the ages of 25 and 34 believe that sometimes it is necessary to be violent in order to be respected. A percentage well above the 11% of the general population.
