Former Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested as part of a trial investigating alleged financial irregularities by the SNP, the Scottish National Party, reports the British press.
“A 52-year-old woman was arrested today on suspicion of being linked to an ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the SNP,” police confirmed in a statement.
The press explains that the donation of 600,000 pounds destined for a campaign to promote independence is at stake, an amount that was improperly spent by the party.
The process is the same one that led to the arrest of Sturgeon’s husband in April. At that point, Peter Murrell was heard from by the authorities and was released after 12 hours.
