Poland rejects involvement in Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions

“Poland had nothing to do with the explosions on Nord Stream 1 and 2,” Poland’s secret service coordinator Stanislaw Zaryn said on his Twitter account, describing his country’s connection to that operation as “baseless” .

For Zaryn, the hypothesis remains that Russia was responsible for the sabotage, a country that had “the motivation and capabilities” to commit it.

The response of the Secret Service coordinator follows information published in the US press, according to which German investigators are analyzing whether Poland was used as a base.

This information joins others released in May by the North American and German media, according to which a boat, the “Andromeda”, was used for sabotage, which was rented and used by a group of several people with fake passports. .

The press pointed to a Ukrainian airstrip, the nationality of at least one of those who used that boat.

The German government and the federal prosecutor’s office declined to comment on the information because the investigation is still ongoing.

The German Public Prosecution Service only confirmed the search of the house of one person, who lives near the border with Poland.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has denied his country’s involvement in the operation.

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines were decommissioned on September 26 due to four simultaneous explosions in Baltic waters.

Two leaks were identified in each pipeline, two in the Danish area and two in the Swedish area, all in international waters, while preliminary investigations pointed to a state actor not yet identified as the culprit.

None of the pipelines were carrying gas when they exploded because Russia halted shipments through Nord Stream 1, built in 2005 and in service since 2011, a few months after the invasion of Ukraine began.

Nord Stream 2, which began construction in 2011, was never commissioned because German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suspended its commissioning “in extremis” precisely because of the conflict.
