Three killed in boat attack in southern Ukraine

Three people died and ten were injured this Sunday in an attack on a boat carrying people evacuated from flooded areas in southern Ukraine, the local governor announced.

“Thirteen people were injured when a boat evacuating people from the left bank of the Dnieper was shelled,” it said.

Three civilians were killed and 10 injured, including two law enforcement officers, Oleksandre Prokoudine, governor of the Kherson region, said via the Telegram social network.

On Tuesday, the destruction of the Kakhovka dam south of the Dnieper caused downpours of water to rain down on neighboring cities and towns.

The two camps deny their responsibility in this catastrophe, which affected both banks of the Dnieper, each controlled by one of the belligerents.

According to the Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko, 77 places were flooded, including 14 in the territories under Russian occupation.

In a message on Telegram, the same official presented a total balance of six dead and 35 missing, including seven children, in both regions.

In areas under Ukrainian control, 3,700 people were evacuated.

In Russian-occupied parts, local authorities claimed to have evacuated more than 7,000 people.

According to Klymenko, 162,000 people are without drinking water due to the destruction of the hydroelectric dam.
