Three dead, three injured in northeastern U.S. shooting

Three people were killed and three injured in a shooting in the capital of the US state of Maryland (northeast) on Sunday evening, police said.

Annapolis Police Chief Edward Jackson told a press conference that the shooting resulted from what he described as an “interpersonal dispute” at a home where they met, with no other threat to the public.

“We’re still trying to figure out everything that happened. We’re still putting the pieces together. We still have a lot of work to do,” Jackson said.

The official would not provide details about the relationship between the people involved, but said the ages of the fatalities ranged between 20 and 50 years, adding that authorities have not yet determined a concrete reason for the shooting.

“It wasn’t random,” Jackson said, noting that the victims died “outside” the house. A suspect is being held and no charges have been brought, the police chief said, adding that authorities had recovered a weapon.

Several police vehicles were seen in the residential area where the shooting took place, south of the city center and close to the waterfront.

Police also said in a statement that one of the injured was airlifted to a trauma center.
