65 migrants rescued from the sea in Spain

Spanish Maritime Rescue rescued 65 people who were in a boat and transferred them to Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, the Spanish authorities reported Monday.

The inflatable boat was found on Sunday afternoon, at 8:24 p.m. local time (7:24 p.m. in Lisbon), after being sighted by the Sasemar 101 plane.

The ship was carrying 65 people of sub-Saharan origin, namely 57 men and eight women.

They were all assisted by the crew of the Salvamar Izar ship and disembarked at 00:47 this Monday (11:27 on Sunday in Lisbon), in the port of Gran Tarajal, on the island of Fuerteventura.

Early this morning, a fishing boat alerted of the presence of a vessel 68.5 kilometers from Arrecife, the capital of the island of Lanzarote, leaving the ship Guardamar Polimnia to the rescue.

This past weekend, 298 people arrived in the Canary Islands aboard three wooden boats and one pneumatic boat.
