Zaporijia’s Separate Territorial Defense Brigade announced Monday the liberation of a town in that province in southeastern Ukraine, hours after other Ukrainian military sources announced the recapture of four villages in Donetsk.
“On June 4, as part of the defense operation (of Ukrainian territory), the city of Novodarivka was liberated from the occupiers,” the brigade reports on the social network Facebook.
‘The units of the brigade continue to succeed! Victory will be ours!’
Ukraine has launched a counter-offensive on the ground in recent days, liberating four villages in Donetsk province and Novodarovka municipality in Zaporijia.
The city of Novodarivka is located near the border between Zaporijia and Donetsk, in one of the sectors of the front where Ukraine has launched offensive operations.
Kiev also announced more troop advances around Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine almost completely taken by Moscow forces.
Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky admitted on Saturday the existence of “counter-offensive actions” by his army at the front, without clarifying, however, whether this is the major attack prepared by Kiev several months ago.
Zelensky’s words follow those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who said on Friday that the major Ukrainian counter-offensive to drive troops from Moscow had already begun.
The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14.7 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.2 million to European countries – according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).
The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia political and economic sanctions.
