US President Joe Biden had to cancel his work schedule for this Monday (12) due to dental problems, delaying a meeting with the NATO leader until Tuesday, the White House said.
The head of state, who is scheduled to undergo dental surgery today, has canceled all his appointments, including an ambassadorial reception scheduled for that evening.
After the appearance of the dental problems, the Democrat had already received “uncomplicated” treatment on Sunday by a team at Walter Reed Military Hospital, his personal physician said in a statement.
The meeting Biden was scheduled to have with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, as well as the reception of ambassadors, were moved to Tuesday.
The dental procedure will be performed at the White House and there will be no general anesthesia, sources close to the US president said.
Joe Biden therefore does not have to temporarily transfer his powers to Vice President Kamala Harris, as provided for in the 25th amendment to the US Constitution.
According to his latest medical report released early this year, Joe Biden is in “good health.”
However, polls point to his age as a major disadvantage among voters. It is also a recurring angle of his political opponents, most notably Donald Trump, himself 76 years old.
Biden is the United States’ oldest-ever president, and if reelected, he would be 86 at the end of his second term.
