A Russian bombing has killed a 72-year-old priest in the courtyard of his church near Kherson in the south of the country, the head of Ukraine’s presidential administration Andrii Yermak said on Tuesday.
“The Russian army shelled the town of Bilozerka with artillery. It hit the courtyard of a church and killed the priest”Yermak wrote on Facebook, in a post accompanied by images.
It also reported that a 76-year-old woman was injured. In addition, four houses, the central square and other places were hit.
Bilozerka is located about 10 kilometers west of the city of Kherson, the regional capital that was recaptured by the Ukrainian army in November and partially submerged after the destruction of a dam on the Dnipro River.
The Russian army has been bombing Kherson and its surroundings regularly since the Ukrainians recaptured the city on the left bank of the Dnipro. The river serves as a natural obstacle to advancing troops in Kiev.
A counter-offensive was launched in the south and east of the country to try to regain the areas occupied by Russian troops.
